Getting tattooed

Getting tattooed in Hertsikan Leima works like this.

Booking

Hertsikan Leima's appointments start by filling out the contact form on our website. After sending the form, our customer service will contact you and, if necessary, arrange a consultation meeting with the tattoo artist. Sending the form does not bind you to a purchase decision, and you will not be charged anything for the consultation.

To make an appointment, we ask you a few questions about your tattoo, which will make it easier for us to choose the right artist for your project. Please fill in the fields carefully.

Consultation

A consultation is a free meeting with your tattooist lasting approximately 15-30 minutes. At the meeting, you discuss your tattoo idea, and at the end you get a time and price estimate from the tattoo artist.

Please send any reference photos to your tattooist before the consultation. Reference images are sample images of the tattoo style and theme you wish for your tattoo. They are not mandatory, but they make it easier to choose the right tattoo artist, and for the tattoo artist to outline your idea and its costs.

The consultation is free of charge. During the consultation, the tattoo artist can recommend another artist to you if he feels that he cannot implement your idea according to your wishes. If necessary, the consultation can also be held remotely. In that case, please send a picture of the area to be tattooed to your tattoo artist by email well in advance of the meeting. The picture should be large enough so that the tattooist can also see other possible tattoos or points to be taken into account.

Booking Fee

A booking fee is charged every time you make a tattoo appointment. No fee is charged for continuing sessions. The booking fee is part of the total price of the tattoo and it is taken into account in the total amount of the tattoo. Instructions for paying the booking fee can be found in the tattoo appointment confirmation letter.

Tattoo day

A rested and nourished body can withstand the sensations brought by tattooing better. That's why it's good to eat well, drink a little more water than usual and get a good night's sleep before the tattoo day.

It is good to moisturize the skin (especially in the winter months) a few weeks before the tattoo time with a thin moisturizer every day.

Please make sure that in the summer and on holiday trips, the skin does not burn before the time of tattooing. Burnt skin cannot be tattooed. You don't have to shave before tattooing. The tattooist will shave the skin before tattooing.

It is not recommended to drink alcohol the day before, because if you are unwell, the pain caused by tattooing will only be accentuated. Alcohol thins the blood and dehydrates the body.
Note! Please check with your doctor in good time if you have any questions, e.g. is your health or medication an obstacle to tattooing.

A nutritious breakfast helps to keep blood sugar steady and you can cope better in the tattoo booth.

For a longer tattoo day, it is good to bring snacks, and you can order food to the studio. There are also grocery stores nearby. We recommend avoiding excessive consumption of caffeinated beverages due to their dehydrating and blood-thinning effect.

Please wear clothes that can get dirty and that you are comfortable in during the tattoo day. It is important that the area to be tattooed is easily to uncover. It is recommended that the clothes are comfortable and flexible.

Please be aware of others doing business in the studio and avoid unnecessary nudity. For example, when tattooing the back, a hoodie that can be opened at the front or a cardigan turned over works well as clothing. When tattooing your thigh, it's good to bring shorts, for example.

The tattoo area is protected by screens, but please note that several tattooists work in the studio. Organizing a completely private appointment should be done well in advance with the tattoo artist. You can also bring with you, for example, warm socks, your own neck pillow, snacks and reading. If you want to listen to music or watch videos on your phone, please bring your own headphones. Video calls and meetings are not allowed due to the open space of the studio.

How to prepare?

During the tattoo day

Numbing cream

In case you are planning to use numbing cream, please, notify your tattoo artist about it before the appointment.

Payment

The tattoo is usually paid at the end of the tattoo day, but sometimes also in advance, such as on crowded Walk In days.

Depending on the tattoo artist, the payment methods are cash, card payment and bank transfer. Please confirm the payment methods of your own tattooist before the tattoo date from the booking confirmation. Gift cards can also be used as a means of payment for each tattoo artist.

Aftercare

Start the treatment of the tattoo by carefully following the instructions given by the tattoo artist. Please note that the size, location and methods used of the tattoo affect healing. It usually takes 4-6 weeks for the tattoo to heal.

Always handle the tattoo with clean hands. A fresh tattoo is protected with a protective film (Second Skin) or a plastic wrap (for example Elmukelmu), which prevent impurities from entering the wound. Remove the protective film within 1-3 days. If your tattoo is protected with plastic wrap, remove it 2-4 hours after getting the tattoo. Do not install new protection.

Wash the tattoo daily with clean water and dry the skin by patting it with a clean towel or hand paper. Do not use disinfectants, as they dry out the skin and may also kill the bacteria that promote healing.

Apply a thin layer of unscented moisturizer or tattoo aftercare cream to the tattoo 2-3 times a day. Lubrication prevents excessive formation of scab and promotes healing.

During healing, avoid swimming, saunas, direct sunlight and rubbing the area. Do not remove the scab that forms on the surface of the tattoo, but let it come off on its own.

It is normal for the tattoo to cause mild pain, redness and to leak tissue fluid. No need to worry about these. However, if you notice abnormal symptoms, such as severe pain, contact the tattooist and, if necessary, a doctor immediately.

A healed tattoo will stay beautiful for longer if you always protect it from the sun with, for example, sunscreen with a protection factor of 50. However, don't apply sunscreen to the healing tattoo, but protect it with clothing.

Note!

Sports

Heavy exercise increases secretion of mucus and increases favorable conditions for harmful bacteria. In addition, exercise involves risks of stretching the tattoo (e.g. bicep curls stretch the healing tattoo on the upper arm and can tear open the scab). Pressure in a fresh tattoo can increase the risk of so-called blow out (spreading of ink under the skin). Other risks associated with sports are the rubbing of the tattoo, dirtiness and blows to the tattoo.

Sauna and swimming

The sauna increases sweating in the wound area and can promote the growth of harmful bacteria. Avoid saunas while the wound is healing. Stagnant water (such as in the swimming pool and the pool) contains a lot of bacteria, so it should be avoided during healing. Also, don't wash your tattoo with, for example, lake water.

Summer

Remember to protect the tattoo from the sun in the summer. UV radiation lightens the tattoo, and with good protection the colors of the tattoo are preserved better. During summer trips, festivals and cabin trips, it is good to note that lake water is not suitable for washing tattoos.

Winter

Please make sure that the tattoo taken in winter does not freeze or that the scab of the healing tattoo does not chafe under, for example, woolen clothes. In winter, it is necessary to consider moisturizing the skin before the time of tattooing and while the tattoo is healing.

Pets

Please make sure that your pets do not come into contact with your tattoo. We recommend changing clean sheets and not letting your pet into the bed until the wound has healed. Protect the tattoo especially well when you clean up your pet's droppings.

On Holidays

If potable water is not available to clean the tattoo, you can use cooking solution or bottled water. Disinfectants should not be used unless the skin is infected, as it dries the skin and also kills bacteria that heal the skin.

Checking the healing tattoo

If you notice symptoms of inflammation, severe redness, purulent discharge or severe pain in the tattoo, please contact your tattooist and doctor. A fresh tattoo secretes plasma, it is not dangerous. The second skin can cause an allergic reaction, causing a pimpled rash to form around and/or under it. In this case, please remove the film immediately and wash the tattoo with lukewarm water and mild soap.

Removing the film

lways remove the protective film under warm water carefully, slowly lifting from the corners. Water loosens the film's adhesive.

Remove the film if there is a rash, sores or severe pain on the skin.

Fix Ups

Every tattoo includes a free correction session. The repair session is carried out if the color has come out of the tattoo during healing or if there is something else that needs to be repaired, which is not due to the following reasons:

The customer has neglected aftercare

The tattoo is done on the soles of the feet, palms or fingers

The tattoo is made on scarred skin.

A free correction session is booked when the tattoo has healed for 4-6 weeks. The guarantee is valid for 6 months after getting the tattoo. Please always send a picture of the healed tattoo when you book a repair appointment.
